Allow plenty of time on the morning of the event:
Make sure you allow plenty of time to get to the event venue, to find a car park. Please leave enough time to get to event check-in, which is open from 7.00am (6.30am in Geelong). The more time you allow, the easier it will be. There will be lots of people at event check-in and it will be very, very busy, so please be patient and listen to all instructions, which will come from our officials, volunteers and the event commentator.
Select a meeting place at the venue as soon as you arrive:
This is the first thing you should do when you arrive at the Event Venue. It’s a good idea to make a meeting place with your kids. The Meeting Point and Information tent/area is a good place to meet (there are officials there to help you and care for any lost kids) or agree on another landmark your kids can easily identify and remember. There will be lots of people there on the day and it will make it easier if you decide on a meeting place in advance that the whole family can go to if you do get separated and for when you finish the TRYathlon.
What to do when you get there:
Head straight to the CHECK-IN tent (it’s easy to find with the big Check-In flags!), where we speedily check and scan your child's details and give them their official Arena swim cap. If, for some reason, you did not receive the Event Kit by Australia Post, go to “Manual Check In” and you will be entered there and receive your Event Kit.
After CHECK-IN where do I go?
You will then go through the NUMBERING area where HELP TEAM volunteers wearing red T-shirts will make sure you are numbered on the arm and leg. Please make sure that you don’t put sunscreen on your child until we have written on your numbers – otherwise they’ll rub straight off. Our Help Team will also answer all your questions, check you have everything you need and point you in the direction of TRANSITION.
Checklist of what your child takes into transition:
Take everything that you will need for the Weet-Bix Kids TRYathlon into the Transition Area – this will include your:
- Arena Swim Cap
- Goggles
- Official Weet-Bix Kids TRYathlon T-shirt with Bib Number attached
- Bike with security sticker attached
- Helmet with the security sticker attached
- Runners / socks
- Towel
- Brita Water Bottle (filled with water)
- Any medication you think your child may need use of during the Weet-Bix Kids TRYathlon (EG: Asthma puffer)
If you accompany your child (one parent or carer is allowed) make sure that only the equipment needed for the event is left at your bike.
After the bike is racked in Transition where do I go?
Listen for announcements regarding Briefing time for each age group abd if your child does not have to go into briefing, look for coffee (for parents) and fun activities for the kids in the Kids TRYathlon Village.
What happens in the Swim leg:
There will be lifeguards in the water with your child, so it will be very safe. Kids are started by officials in small groups. The water depth usually varies from shallow to less than 2m. From the swim kids head to TRANSITION via the course mapped out (there will be many Help Team people to guide them).
In Transition
Once kids get back to their bike they will put on their shoes, Official Shirt, shorts and helmet and then head into the ride. Again, there will be officials here to help them. When they return to Transition they will rack their bike, take off their helmet and head off for the Run.
Finally, the Run
You will really enjoy this bit as kids complete the course and cross the finish line! Cheer the kids on and watch them enjoy getting their CHAMPIONS medal from one of our sporting hero ambassadors.
Wet weather:
The event will still be held in wet weather. Only under extreme weather conditions ie. Cyclone etc ., would the event be cancelled and in this instance a note will be posted to the Weet-Bix Kids TRYathlon website: www.tryathlon.weetbix.com.au.
Events rules:
- Helmet must be on correctly, and done up securely before kids touch their bike and must rack the bike before undoing the helmet.
- Kids must take care on corners particularly if conditions are wet
- Road closures are in place Rules are to keep left if not overtaking- remember that the bike course is like a normal road, and normal road rules apply
- The official Weet-Bix Kids TRYathlon T-shirt must be worn during the ride and run
- Familiarise yourself with the course – and view Information boards located throughout the event arena to check the maps
- Kids are NOT to move other participant’s bikes or gear in the transition area at anytime
- Kids must do up their shoelaces before they start to ride their bike!
After Kids receive their medal:
Enjoy a FREE Breakfast of Champions!
Direct your kids to the Weet-Bix Breakfast of Champions tent after they have finished the course and received their medal where they will receive a FREE breakfast. It is better for kids to have this breakfast after they finish. Breakfast is free for parents too.
Prize Draw!
The Event Day LUCKY PRIZE DRAW is done electronically after everyone has checked in. Please note there is no final stage presentation at the conclusion of the event to announce prize winners. Prize winners will be announced by the commentator throughout the day. Parents or Guardians must claim the prize. If your child is a winner and you miss your name or are unable to collect your prize on the day, we will notify you by mail. Everyone who registers before the closing date for each event will automatically go into the draw to win some fantastic prizes such as a TREK bike!
Collecting the bike and gear from Transition:
Announcements will be made over the PA when you can collect your bike from transition.
IMPORTANT: The transition area will be sectioned according to age groups. Transition age sections cannot be opened whilst children in that age group are still participating. This is for the safety and security of everyone on the day, especially those children still completing the course.
The Course Director will announce when the transition area for your childs age group is open and bikes can be removed. One adult ONLY may accompany each child when picking up the bike from the transition area.
Please listen to the commentator for instructions in making this easy. We have many bikes and children to clear the area so your patience will be appreciated.
